How many branches of government were organized under the Articles of Confederation?
Under the Articles of Confederation, the US government consisted only of a congress of representatives from each state.
While each state had its own constitution and three branches of government, the country had only a congress because they feared that the excesses of Britain’s strong central government would be repeated here. The weak central government led to serious economic difficulties, and lack of legal enforcement. The US Constitution was written to correct these problems, and it gave the Federal government the same structure that each state government had.
